Attendance: George Bina, Robert Anderson, Bill Gamboa, Keith Shengili-Roberts, Eric Sirois, Lief Erickson, Roger Sheen, Leigh White, Shane Taylor,

Item 1: Any updates about prior releases?

Official 2.5 release out last week. Patch already in progress with minor items. Plan to keep to "3 weeks after first fix" schedule, which means 2.5.1 is currently scheduled for June 21.

Robert currently working on keyref resolution - specifically, 2.5 and earlier releases are broken according to the spec in a couple of ways. Most significant, <linktext> contents are not used as the fallback for general text resolution (only used for linktext elements).

Item 2: DITA-OT 3.0 Development status and updates

preprocess2 is coming...

Item 3: Doc updates and plans, update on documentation call

Not too much to say - not a lot of updates for 2.5 (not a lot of new user-facing content, large portion of the 2.5 release was composed of bug fixes + under the covers work). New Java API does have a new set of placeholder content - starter kit for people trying to experiment with it - but we expect that API to be extended over time, and can add docs as that happens.

Map first preprocessing also does not have a lot of info yet - can extend docs as people start to experiment and have feedback.

Item 4: DITA-OT Day 2017

Call for proposals is out. Would be good to have some suggested topics so people can decide what is on topic, what not. What are highlights? It would be good to have guidelines for proposals:

  • Focus on toolkit itself (as opposed to the standard)
  • Like to hear about custom plugins (ideally those available open-source)
  • New and creative uses for DITA-OT

Keith brings up lightweight DITA. Really would be good to have a presentation on that, specifically - how does it intersect with DITA-OT? How are Jarno's plugins related? Robert suggests - with Jarno creating those, probably best for him to give a session on that, if he has the interest; otherwise need to find somebody able to pick it up.

Need to have another session on state of toolkit - uncertain of tone, scary "This project needs help!" or pleading "<quiet>this project needs help</quiet>" or ... a variety of options.

Roger: doc team is thinking about meet up or hackathon the day before DITA-OT day, optional meet up on Saturday. We typically prep a release the day before DITA-OT day so could do it there. Could take that as an opportunity to get people set up for contributing. Those on call like the idea. Also suggestion to have something over lunch during DITA Europe.

DITA-OT day registrations: currently 20 people.

Item 5: Other issues

Nothing today.

Item 6: Backlog discussion

Open pull request about checkoff templates for contributions -- 2508. Adds a bit of overhead when opening an issue, but 1) you can delete all of the questions and open anyway, and 2) if you provide the info it can really reduce the back-and-forth follow up often required to diagnose or verify an issue. Need to make sure Jarno is OK with the changes Roger made based on his feedback.
