Meeting minutes 2016 02 04
Attendance: Robert, Jarno, Kris, Eric, Radu, Roger, Eliot
Item 1: Any updates about prior releases?
Recently posted 2.2.2, which fixed the issue folks had running bin/ant.
Eric: when trying to call OT using Ant in a build file, seems on Windows, may be some administrator issues. Can't read files. The file is there, if processing in Administor mode, works fine. But out of box, run ant -f, gen-list can't find topics. This is Windows 10.
Radu: integrated 2.2.2 with Oxygen, didn't see any new issues. Found a couple older ones and created issues.
Jarno: have at least one fix in 2.2.3 branch, will have that fix release at some point. So, will continue putting bugs in that branch, features go in develop
.
Item 2: DITA-OT 2.3 status and updates
Jarno hasn't done much recently with core code, apart from change to how copy-to
works. Most focus right now on WebHelp output, which was discussed a lot at the Helsinki Hackathon.
Item 3: Doc updates and plans / updates from doc call
Documentation call in January: quite a success. Overwhelmed with number of callers; had 12 people and maxed out Kris's WebEx account. Have seen some results already; Shane has been active, sending pull requests. Proposed moving samples from OT repository to Docs repository, hoping they will get more attention and seems a more logical home. Also updated to use coderef
for some code samples. Big pull request coming with a lot more updates; would like some technical review once merged.
Also: Dev docs now using new prototype WebHelp output. Would appreciate some feedback. In particular, Jarno and Roger only use very new browsers, if you see issues with older (but not WAY older) ones, please let Roger know. Function still being added.
Extended discussion of PDF style defaults. All seem to agree that the defaults today are wrong in some obvious areas. For example, the way the first page of a bookmap chapter formats, with chapter number above the title. But, even fixing those few things would break any existing customizations. Best potential outcome might be a sample that we can ship, transform type "pdfsample" or similar, that extends PDf2 to do these basic things. PDF2 default remains as-is so nobody is broken.
Item 4: DITA-OT Day 2016
Munich bound...? Follow the Slack channel for details, discussion got started in January with a proposed date of November 13.
Item 5: Other topics
Robert planning to present on DITA-OT at CMS/DITA North America (focus: differences between 1.x and 2.x)
Radu asking about shipping support for MathML and SVG in DITA-OT 2.3, based on Eliot's plugins.
Also, about 20 open pull requests right now, we should probably go through them and accept or reject, to keep the backlog under control.
