Item 1: Milestone 4 status

Released Friday.

Item #: Milestone 5 plans

Jarno spent some time last week reorganizing the documentation. Trying to make "quick start guide" into a true DITA-OT quick start, rather than an intro to DITA / Ant / in depth Ant. The quick-start section should only take a few minutes to read, without worry about user roles, etc.

The Readme map originally had pages to doc parameters for both Ant and Java, but got out of date. Re-edited in Quick Start Guide, but that's not really "quick start". So, moved back to Readme map, where most reference data belongs.

Also moved some things that are really developer docs into the developer reference (extension points, etc). Robert should take a look.

Some other considerations about the docs - we ship PDF and HTML Help, but the CHM file is only useful to Windows. Wonder about shipping HTML version instead. Now that TocJS is working better - maybe use that?

Jarno has also been thinking about an update to re-generate documentation including plug-ins. Would want that to be a new option for integration, not part of the default, otherwise integration would take a long time. Maybe a new "doc" target in the integration build. Could also make this the actual suggested way to regenerate docs; currently build_demo is the way to do that.

Question about PDF2: may wish to change some of the parameters. Can define margins with margin, or with space-before/space-after. The PDF2 code uses margin-top/bottom in some spots, but preferred is space-before/after. Will try that, may change the output for some people with overrides, but should still be able to do it. Improves default output and makes it easier to override.

Bigger item? PDF2 - if you look at XSL folder - some stylesheets have two versions. The one without _1.0 is for legacy IBM DITA. Wonder about removing support? It's making work on the PDF code more difficult - have never tested changes against the old code, for example. Base stylesheets are the IBM ones, the 1.0 ones override some things. No idea what sort of backwards compatibility there is between the two. Could make PDF2 into two plug-ins, one with legacy support, but normal without. Should discuss with Suite Solutions.

Final item: Jarno wrote code in spring for FO code. Now it assumes using FOP; if using XEP / Antenna House, there is an extension to provide the better support. Think we should strive to support the 1.0 specification, and then use override for the dumbed-down FOP support.
