Using the Surveyor Panel

robbyxp1 edited this page Dec 23, 2023 · 20 revisions

The surveyor panel gives you information on the scans you have made in the current system (the one selected by the history cursor) and information on a route (Nav Route or user defined)

See this video for more help!

The surveyor lists interesting information about the system your in, configurable to report various built in searches or use one of the searches defined in the Search Scan Panel.

The surveyor, when configured, will show estimated value of the scans already performed on the system, and the number of bodies scanned of the system.

If the body is mapped by you, a M inside a circle Ⓜ is shown against the body.

If the body has organic scans, a organic symbol ⌬ is shown. If all genus's on the planet are mapped, a organic symbol with a tick ⌬✓ will be shown.

Configure

You configure the surveyor using the buttons along the icon line, from the left:

  • Planets - Configure what information is listed on planets. You can choose to list all planets, or only planets which meet a criteria in this drop down menu.

  • Searches - Configure what discovery searches to run on the system. Searches are defined by the Search Scan Panel, you can either use a built in search or define your own search.
These searches are used by the Discoveries Panel and by the surveyor. Bodies in the system which match one of the searches selected will be shown with the search name against it.
In this way, you can set up custom surveyor searches for a body meeting your exact criteria.

  • Stars - Configure if stars or star belt clusters are listed

  • Display Settings - this allows control of how the surveyor operates and what additional information is shown.
You can configure the surveyor into auto hide mode when its transparent. When this option is on, navigating to a Elite panel (such as target or systems) makes the surveyor hide itself.
The show system info always option lists the system name at the top of the panel. Useful in transparent mode with the caption turned off

  • Alignment - Configure text alignment

  • FSS Signals These can be searched for and displayed. Click on it and enter a semi colon separated list of signal text (case insensitive) to search for and display, or a single * for all. The search allows for partial matches. Signal classes can be searched for: Station, Carrier, Installation, NotableStellarPhenomena, ResourceExtraction, USS, ConflictZone, Other. You can use just use 'stellar' or 'extraction' etc due to the partial match find. It also searches the FD Signal Name, localised signal name, USS fields spawning state localised, spawning faction localised, USS Type localised for matches. So searching for 'conflict' would find all conflict zones from the localised signal name.

  • EDSM - Download data from EDSM on bodies - this is a cheat ;-)

  • Route - Select a route to display routing information for. Either one defined in Expeditions Panel or a Nav Route. The route information shows the current step your in the route, distance to go, etc.

  • Route Settings - Select the display properties of the route display and optionally show target information set in the System Info Panel.

  • Text Font - Use a specific font, instead of the standard font. If you don't select a font and cancel the dialog, it goes back to the standard font.

  • Word Wrap - wrap words over the window length

Overlay Mode

By putting this panel into transparent mode (Tf is recommended, requiring a key to activate the window, see Settings for configuration of that key) you can overlay the panel over the top of Elite. See Panels
