Using the History Grid Panel

Rob edited this page Dec 7, 2022 · 13 revisions

The history grid present a list of events entries. Each event is named, given an icon to help you recognise it, and optionally has data fields to describe the event in more detail.

The grid consists of the following columns:

  • Time: (either Game time, UTC or Local Time, set this up using the settings page.
  • Event: Icons describing the event, plus other icons for start/stop journey, Map entry colour, etc
  • Description: short description of the event
  • Information: more detailed information about the event
  • Notes: any notes you made about the event.

Hover over an entry to see any expanded information about the event:

Double click on the row of the event and it will expand the row height or pop out a panel (dependent on how much text is in the row) and show you all the information it has about the event.

Sorting and Filtering

Each column is sortable, click on the column header to sort under that item.

The toolbar controls are as follows:

  • Time Limit. Using the time drop down selection, you can filter events by how long ago they occurred.

  • Search text box. You can filter events by if they contain this bit of text (any Column). From 15.0 you can also use station:wildcard, stationfaction:wildcard, system:wildcard or body:wildcard to filter on on entries occurring at a specific place. Quote the wildcard if it has spaces in it.

  • Marked. You can mark a journal entry (right click on a journal row and mark it). Marked entries which are displayed by the grid are shown in the drop down list, select on one to go directly to that marked entry. You can unmark by right clicking again on the row and remove the mark.

  • Event filter. Use the event filter drop down, you can filter events by specific event types.

  • Field Filter. Use the Field Filter to filter out entries matching criteria. The journal view gives you a good idea of the fields you can pick. If you have the event in memory already the field entries available will be listed.

  • Export grid. You can export to excel/csv format using the next button.

  • Cursor to top on next journal entry. The green up arrow says move the cursor to the latest entry every time a new event is received by EDD from Elite.

  • Word wrap on/off

  • Outlining control. This button turns on/off outlining and allows control over how the grid is outlined. Outlining allows you to roll up areas of the history for compactness. The outline is shown to the left of the grid. Click on the + and - buttons to roll up sections of the grid.

Column Resizing

Columns automatically resize when you change the size of the EDDiscovery window. They also remember their widths over a shutdown of the program.

Selecting multiple entries

You can click drag down on the grid to select multiple entries at one time for right clicking.

Right Click options

Right click either on a previous selection or a entry and you will be presented with the following options:

  • Marked - mark or unmark a journal entry

  • Remove sorting of columns

  • Set note in a dialog box (same as double clicking on the note cell itself)

  • Create/edit bookmark on the system that this journal entry relates to

  • Set a Start/Stop point for travel calculations. The system info shows accumulated distance, as does the FSD Jump entry if the jump is within a start/stop marker area.

  • Jump to next start/stop marker downwards

  • Go to star on 3D Map : Open the 3D Map and go to this system.

  • View On EDSM: Open a web page on this system

  • Star Map Colour: Set the colour to show on the 3D Map for this entry.

  • Add To: Add system or systems to one of the other EDD panels.

  • Move Entries to another Commander: Advanced. Move all selected entries to another commander. Be very careful.

  • Hide Entries: Clicking on a range, or a single entry, and using this moves the entry to the hidden commander. You can see hidden entries by using the commander selection drop down to select 'Hidden commander'. You can then move them back to another commander using the next option.

  • Remove Journal Entry: Advanced, Caution. Delete this entry entirely. Use with caution. Useful for the EDD Set Item entry (which the user creates]]. If journals are rescanned, the entry may reappear.

  • Run Actions on this entry. Re-run any actions that apply to this entry.

  • Copy journal entry to clipboard and log. Useful if you want to see the underlying journal entry from the frontier journal logs.

  • Show lines in system visited fore colour. In the deep and dark past, back in 2015, Cmdr Finwen highlighted systems which had known positions in this colour. If this tick is off, systems with position are shown in normal grid fore colour therefore obeying the standard grid colour scheme. If this tick is on, systems with position are shown in system visited fore colour. Systems without position are highlighted in red. Leave this off unless you want to go back to 2015!

Export

Use the export icon to export the current travel history data (from 15.0, scans as well) to a CSV file for spreadsheets like excel.
