Similar to And, Or rather serves as a disjunctive between a combination of Event or Entity annotations.

Trigger

The word or, or phrase such as and/or. If the surrounding criteria logically mean 'Or' (even if written as 'and'), 'and' may also be annotated as Or. (see second example)

Examples

Example of delirium 'Or' depression conditions.

Example of the token 'and' which, when interpreted into Boolean Logic, interestingly means *Or* rather than *And*, despite the surface-level appearance otherwise.

Exceptions

If examples or instances of an Event follow in parentheses, Or should not be annotated, and instead individual examples (sepsis, pneumonia, urinary tract infection) should each be annotated as an Example Of the condition (e.g., bacterial infection).

See the Commas that mean Or section for more information.

Arguments

  • Arg1 - the Event annotation preceeding Or.
  • Arg2 - the Event annotation following Or.
