Past vs Present vs Future

Nic Dobbins edited this page Aug 18, 2020 · 1 revision

In general, the annotation assumes criteria have occurred in the past. Occasionally, however, criteria refer to Events in the future, or even the present.

Recall that to represent time and date ranges, we use Equality Comparisons. So how should we annotate recent, past, present, and future?

Annotate date ranges using an Eq-Temporal-Period.

Example future event

Example of 'in the next' annotated as 'future', as the Temporality must take place in the future and is not a duration of time.

Example past event

Example of 'within the past' annotated as 'past', as the Temporality must take place in the past and is not a duration of time.

Example current event

Example of 'current' as a 'Eq-Temporal-Period' of 'present'.

Example recent event

Example of 'just' as a 'Eq-Temporal-Period' of 'recent'.
