Groups

Search group

These options are available to you:

  • Enter a search term in the search field and click on the relevant search result. To search specifically for groups only, enter the & sign as a prefix.
  • Search on the map.
  • In the top bar click on your profile picture and then on Groups. Depending on how your network is configured, there may be a Groups menu item or a group icon in the top bar.

Join a group

On the group page select Join. Depending on the group type and the settings of the group (see below) you can:

  • join the group directly
  • join the group only after your membership has been activated by the group owner
  • join only on invitation of the group owner

Create a post or comment

To write a post, click on the plus sign on the group page. To comment on a post in a group, you must be a member of that group. For everything else, see Posts and comments.

Leave a group

  • On the group page, click on I'm a member.
  • Click on Leave.

Visibility of groups

Public

  • can be found via search
  • posts are visible to all users of the network and are also displayed on the general posts overview page
  • the members list is visible to all users of the network
  • only group members can post posts in a group and and comment posts of a group
  • users can join and leave the group (may require activation by the group owner)

Closed

  • can be found via search
  • content is only visible to group members
  • posts are only visible for group members and are also shown on the general post overview page
  • the members list is only visible to group members
  • users can be invited or join the group after activation by the owner

Secret

  • cannot be found via search and not on the group list unless the user is a member
  • posts are only visible to group members and are also shown on the general posts overview page
  • the members list is only visible to group members
  • membership is by invitation only by the group owner

For group owner

Create a group

By creating a group you become the owner of the group.

  1. Click on your profile picture in the title bar and select Groups.
  2. Click on the + button.
  3. Enter the group name.
  4. Select the visibility of the group. The properties of the types are explained above.
  5. Optional: Enter the destination of the group.
  6. Enter a description of the group. Explanations about the text editor can be found here.
  7. Select the action radius of the group.
  8. Optional: Enter the location of the group. It will be shown on the map too.
  9. Select the topics of the group.
  10. Click on Create new group.

Edit a group

  1. Click on your profile picture in the title bar and select the menu item Groups.
  2. Click on the three dots next to the group and select Settings.
  3. Edit the settings.
  4. Click on Save changes.

Delete a group

This function is to be developed. #5388

Add a member

  1. Click on Members in the group settings.
  2. At Add User, enter the unique username (@username) and click the magnifying glass.

Edit a user role

  1. Click on Members in the group settings.
  2. Select another user role:

Outstanding member

  • was invited to the group
  • becomes a simple member after his approval

Simple member

  • can post and comment

Administrator

Currently, this role is identical to the simple member's role. In the future, administrators should be able to e.g. invite members and activate pending members. #5386

Owner

  • can change the settings of the group
  • can delete the group - to be developed #5388
  • can invite members
  • can change the user role of the members (exceptions: own role and role of owners)
  • can remove members

Remove a member

  1. Click on Members in the group settings.
  2. Next to the member click on Remove.
