OpenGrid's map-based interface is an efficient platform to visualize traffic and vehicle-related data. There are three types of visualization that is immediately applicable to cities, useful for the public and employees, and displays data currently collected by city agencies.

Origin/Destination data

The City of Chicago -- and other cities -- have begun to collect detailed trip data for taxi trips and rideshare data. For instance, the City of Chicago publishes taxi trips data on the city's data portal.

These data are characterized by containing the location and timestamp for the origin and destination of the trip. OpenGrid could visualize these trips to show where trips begin and where they end.

"Path" trip data

Cities track the location of fleet vehicles that regularly update with their location. One example of this is the location of all CTA buses and trains. Unlike Origin/Destination data, which only shows beginning and end, this data updates several times with each location representing a spot along the path.

OpenGrid could display path data to show the direction and location of fleet vehicles currently and over time.
