[Classic] Installation

kmcnaught edited this page Mar 24, 2021 · 2 revisions

This page relates to the older EyeMine classic edition. If you're installing the latest version, please see Installation instead.

FIXME: some links need updating here - including where to download, how to use demo, mojang vs MS account etc..

There are a few different elements that need to be installed before you can get up and running with eye-controlled Minecraft. Install the following programs in the order described.

Note that you require an internet connection for several parts of this installation process.

If you have already installed an earlier version of EyeMine, you can skip the Minecraft and Minecraft Forge steps and only update the Eye Gaze mod and EyeMine.

For reference, you can watch a video of the whole installation process or see links below for individual parts of the process.

Minecraft

Install Minecraft:Java Edition from the Minecraft download page. You will also need to create an account, if you don't already have one. After creating a free account you will be able to try Minecraft completely free for a limited period. Once you're happy that EyeMine is working for you, you will need to buy a proper Minecraft account, which is less than £20. Make sure you buy Minecraft - Java Edition for PC and Mac.

This can be purchased at the Minecraft homepage or from your favourite game retailer.

Installation notes

(Watch a video of Minecraft installation)

  • Download and run the installer
  • If the installer asked you to install Java, restart your computer after installation has finished and then continue the instructions.
  • Wait until all parts have finished running, and you are presented with a login screen to the Minecraft Launcher.
  • Close the Minecraft Launcher before continuing

EyeMine installers

Download the latest installer: EyeMine-v1.1.1

Unzip the downloaded file by right clicking on it and selecting "Extract all".

You will need the files in the resulting EyeMine-v1.0.18 folder for the following steps.

Minecraft Forge

EyeMine uses a custom mod to make changes to Minecraft. For this to work, you need to install Minecraft Forge, v1.11.2, which we include in the EyeMine-v1.0.18 folder.

Installation notes

(Watch a video of installing Minecraft Forge)

  • Open the unzipped EyeMine-v1.0.18 folder
  • Run the installer forge-1.11.2-13.20.0.2228-installer-win.exe
  • Select "Install client" and "OK"
  • If the installer prompts you to install the Java Runtime, follow the link and install before running the forge installer again.

Eye Gaze mods and custom setup

This will install the EyeGaze mod, set some defaults for Minecraft and install some sample worlds for you to get playing with. If you are already an advanced minecraft user, see Advanced Minecraft Installation for a more custom installation.

Installation notes

(Watch a video of EyeGaze mod installation)

  • Open the unzipped EyeMine-v1.0.18 folder
  • Run install_specialeffect_mods.bat
  • Once the installation has completed, launch Minecraft from your Desktop.
  • Log in to the Minecraft Launcher with your account details
  • Important! Do not click the big green "Play" button yet! Click the small arrow on the right of the Play button and select "forge". Now click "Play" and the modded version of Minecraft will be launched.
  • When Minecraft has loaded, click on "Mods" and scroll down the list. If you can "EyeGaze" in the list, your installation has been successful!

EyeMine

Finally, you need to install EyeMine itself, which gives you eye-controlled keyboards you can use to play the modded version of Minecraft.

Installation notes

(Watch a video of EyeMine installation)

  • Open the unzipped EyeMine-v1.0.18 folder
  • Run the installer, EyeMineInstaller.msi
  • Follow the instructions at Setting up your eyetracker to configure EyeMine for your eye tracker.

Get playing!

Now that everything is installed, head over to Get started playing to guide you through your first time playing.
