NOTOC
Another new stable vips, 7.10.17 this time. This fixes a library versioning problem (thanks Jay) and includes a couple of win32 changes to help builds with MSVC (thanks Juan).
Another new stable nip2. This fixes a crash in the compiler for some list generator expressions, thanks Jiri.
Juan Torres Arjona has contributed a VIPS.DLL for stable version 7.10.16. Very handy for windows developers.
New stable version. This fixes yet another gcc4 optimisation problem, and as a bonus, the win32 binary now includes a working ImageMagick, so you can load BMP files.
New development snapshot, 7.11.3. This is mostly bugfixes and tidies since 7.11.2. There's a handy Windows binary this time.
I've put up a new source package for VIPS stable 7.10.15 which fixes a problem with -O2 in gcc4.
New stable version, 7.10.14. There is a windows zip plus sources, other binaries will follow over the next few days, hopefully.
What's changed:
- 16 bit LAB TIFF did not follow the standard
- bugfix: occasional black lines on image edges on resize
- optionmenus sometimes not set correctly on workspace load
- better detection of transparency in colour images
- better windows build
- increment filename on save was broken
- other small speedups, portability fixes, bug fixes
New development snapshot, 7.11.2. Fancy new metadata system, check the docs for im_meta
if you're curious. It adds a lot of very useful new features, such as full ICC profile support on import and export, and a much more comprehensive history mechanism.
We finally have vips and nip in CVS on sourceforge. There are some notes on development explaining how to get access.
Beginners guide to nip2 updated: The windows version of nip2 can handle large files, sorry. I have removed the old comment saying that it could not.
We've made a vips-7.11 download area. This means new work is now going to happen there and vips-7.10 will (finally) go into maintenance mode. It'll get bugfixes, but that's it.
A PDF of the beta version of the beginners guide to nip2 can now be downloaded from the documentation page. This document is intended to be a starting point that can be developed as more suggestions or queries are sent in. It is meant to be a beginners guide so if any of it is unclear please let us know so that we can improve it.
Added mac and linux binaries for the new version.
I managed to forget to include the transform plugin in the win32 build earlier in the week :-( so there's a new version. Denis found a couple of bugs too, so I've bumped the version number and made 7.10.10. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Summary of changes since 7.10.8:
- vips and nip are now 64-bit clean. This gives a very good speed up on x86 systems: we see about a factor of two here.
- Much more modest memory use in nip2, especially when loading large workspaces. For a large mosaic workspace you need less than half the RAM of the previous version.
- Enhancements to TIFF read/write mean VIPS now supports 16 bit and float LAB TIFF images (including pyramids) and ccittfax4 compression.
- Added a couple of animations. There is a fancy tile fade animation as pixels are calculated. This animation is done in the idle loop, so it shouldn't slow down the program (much).
- Added menu items for Image Rank and Chop Into Tiles.
Plus many small bugfixes and enhancements, see the changelogs for details.
New stable verion: 7.10.9. A few new features, more portability, and lots of small bugfixes. Check the changelogs for details.
As usual, we'll let it bed in for a week before making an annoucement to the world.
Denis has done a new version of his windows installer for nip2 stable. This packages the latest version, adds some icons, makes a note in the registry, and so on.
Put a nip2-7.10.8 final for Mac up. It fixes a couple of irritating bug in the earlier build. Also removes the 2GB limit.
New stable version: 7.10.8. Linux, windows and mac binaries. Lots of bugfixes, plus a few enhancements:
- Quite a few speed-ups, especially for win32 users. Some colour operations are 10x faster.
- The win32 version no longer has a 2GB file size limit, yea.
- Many preferences are now automatic (for example, nip2 now remembers its last window size for you).
- Reworked Program and Trace windows.
As usual, we'll let it bed in for a week before making an annoucement to the world.
Added a vips-examples-7.10 package to stable. It's a few simple C and C++ examples showing how to write plugins and WIO/PIO operations. There are some test images as well.
There's a Mac OS X build of nip2 stable It needs OS X 10.3 or later and Apple's X11 package installed. This is a test build, but seems to work fine on the few machines I've tried it on.
