NOTOC
Another nip2 snapshot, nip2-7.9.3. The image display framework is redone (the UI is quite a bit simpler and prettier), there's support for internationalisation, the command-line mode is back, keyboard shortcuts are configurable, and a bunch of smaller stuff.
New stable release is up, 7.8.12. There are windows and linux binaries, plus sources. No Mac binary yet: I'm hoping to get Panther this weekend and do a build which will work there too.
This fixes a bad bug in the image processing library and also patches all the
minor problem swe've found in the last three months. I'd urge everyone to update.
Another nip2 snapshot, nip2-7.9.2. All the image, colour and region painting code has been reworked for gtk2. It's fully threaded now (the interface always stays live, even during long paints) with a fancy new background repaint system. Some other small fixes too.
Another month, another nip2 snapshot, nip2-7.9.1 this time. Get the sources from the development area, and check out the screendump:
New this month: mostly HIG-ified, SDI interface, preferences view, save/load progress dialogs, instant-apply prefs.
I've added a colour calibration example to the quick tours.
I've put nip2-7.9.0 up. This is a version of nip hacked about for the gtk2 user interface toolkit. It's not really useful for real work yet, it's just up in case anyone wants to help out with porting. Go to then vips-7.9 area to download the sources.
7.8.11 is now up, with pre-built binaries for linux, mac and win32. We'll leave it a week and if no more problems are found, it'll be formally announced.
Gosh darn it, Haida has found a terrible bug where relational ops failed for some combinations of image type. I've made new linux and win32 binaries, mac and sources to follow tomorrow.
There's yet another nip-7.8.10 linux binary. This one now works on GNOME and KDE under SuSE, RedHat and Knoppix. Download the new one if you were getting crashes on startup.
Auug, there was a problem with the nip start script on linux. There's a new nip-7.8.10a linux binary, and a new nip-7.8.10a.tar.gz source tarball.
New stable version, 7.8.10. Binaries for Win32, Mac and Linux. This includes all the fixes since February (some very useful).
The big change is to licensing: we've switched the library from GPL to LGPL. This will let proprietary applications use VIPS. nip (the GUI) stays GPL.
There's a new windows build, fixing a drag-n-drop problem. You should find all drag n drop to nip works (at last).
Thanks to Jim for tracking this one down.
Uploaded vips-7.8.9.tar.gz to the vips-7.8 area.
This fixes an awful bug where ``im_min()`` and ``im_max()`` would
return random wrong results on multi-CPU machines with threading enabled and IM_CONCURRENCY
set > 1, thanks Joe. Also fixes a couple of issues in the TIFF writer, the MSVC build system and makes header
work better on truncated files.
Source only for now. We'll make some updated binaries with the next nip
release.
Added a search thing to the website.
The Mac build of the new version is up too.
New versions of vips and nip, plus binaries for linux and windows. Mac binary tomorrow.
This is mostly a bug-fix and polish release, but there are a couple of new things:
- Fourier transforms are about 2 - 3 times faster, thanks to an idea from Matt Hanson.
- nip widgets with useful controls inside now appear in the open state. This makes the interface slightly less opaque.
Plus some tiny additions and a lot of bug fixes. Here is the full list of changes for VIPS and for nip.
I've started nip-7.9, which is going to be nip redone for gtk2. It builds and sort of works, but not well enough to put anything up yet. So this will (hopefully) be the last 7.8 release that adds anything.
New Mac build: it failed to start correctly on machines without the developer tools installed. Thanks Cyril.
Of course I messed up the last release :-(
- There's a new Mac build, this time including on-line help, yea.
- New linux RPMs install to
/usr/local/
rather than/usr
by default. A change to libMagick init prevents assert() problems with some platforms. Two new scripts for image conversion and rubbersheeting also installed. (thanks Lars) - New source tarballs for vips and nip reflecting the changes.
New versions of vips, nip and ip, plus binaries for mac, linux and windows.
Highlights:
- nip now has a simple built-in paintbox (shown in the picture)
- built-in help for image processing menu items (try 'Help=>Menu reference' in the main window)
- PNG load/save (thanks Hans), libMagick support for load of almost any image type
- now builds with the MS toolchain, and has a bug-fixed win32 file selector (thanks Hans)
- drag-and-drop loading for win32 and *nix (thanks Hans)
- plus much better out-of-mem handling, snap-to-guide, smarter region repaints, 2x faster start-up, colour drag-and-drop, copy-on-write for row member edit, extra preferences and more
also many small fixes, check out the ChangeLog.
There's a test Mac OS X build of nip-7.8.5 in the download area. It works, but there's still some stuff missing.
