Capturing traffic with Wireshark

Often it is useful to capture the actual traffic for debugging.

• Download and install Wireshark
  • If you want to sniff from a a server which is on the same computer (localhost) you have to install Npcap on windows systems (https://wiki.wireshark.org/CaptureSetup/Loopback)
• Capture the relevant traffic and open the file in Wireshark
• Select a packet that is part of the relevant conversation and "decode as OPC UA".
• In the capture screen write "opcua" as a filter (and activate with the green arrow to the right) to see OPC UA packets only
