#Overview
The different lamps in PRMan are very similar to those used in Cycles, and are added in the same way.

In the 3D scene window press shift-A and select one of the lamp types from the dropdown list. This will add the lamp along with pre-selecting the light type in the lamps object's data tab. In order to access the rest of the lamp's settings, click on the 'Add Renderman Node Tree' button.

If you have the node page open you will notice that the appropriate PRMan light shader node is automatically created and linked. If you change the light type, a shader node will be created and linked for the new light type, but the old one will remain on the page, unlinked.

##Lamp Object Data options

  • Shape: This option selects the lamp type. The various options are explained on the Light Types page.
  • Node Tree: This gives the name of the node tree assigned to this lamp.
  • Illuminates by default: This setting ties in with the light linking function and determines how the lamp affects objects..
  • Shading rate: This determines the quality of the light shading. If you notice banding effects this should be lowered, however this will increase render times.
