Playing the game

The best way to learn how to play this game is by watching other players recorded games.

Winning tips

• Read the comprehensive New Player's Guide To OpenRA
• Learn the Controls and shortcuts
• build at least two ore refineries in the start of the game (This will make sure you are covered with cash for a while)
• do not waste units. Example do not attack with one medium tank against the enemy. Such a attack will make you lose both production time and money. This will also alert the enemy player to build defense which could be difficult to break later in game.
• if you want to attack early in game you should do so with long distance weapons. Make sure you can back up those weapons with example Anti-air or anti-tank.
• always make sure the ore trucks go to the closest ore refineries, and that they are right next to the ore
• sell unused ore refineries
• use arrow keys for moving the screen and disable scrolling when touching the edges with mouse. This increase control over the screen and your units. (Actually, you probably want to use middle-mouse to pan. This is fast and accurate. --chrisf)
• have a large screen and the highest native display resolution (allowing the player to see more of the map at once)
• always search for crates, which provide randomized rewards of bonus units, credits, unit or global repair and more
• always have a defensive building ready to be deployed. This will give you some time to backup your base when attacked. (Pillbox/Flametower early in game and Tesla/Turret later in game)
