4. Recommended Tools
If you already have a favourite tool, keep using it :) At CodeDoesGood we do not require you to use a specific tool because we don't want to interrupt your normal workflow. However if you don't have a favourite tool for these things we urge you to use the recommended tools on this page. This way someone at CodeDoesGood will be familiar with the tool and can help you if you have any questions. These tools should all be free, if you notice one which does not have a free account type please let someone know so we can update this page.
Some of these things overlap categories, for example Appear.in can do audio only calls and screen sharing but in our experience Screenhero is a better screen sharing solution and using Slack to make calls makes the most sense when you are only talking to one person because you are right there chatting with someone and can just hit "call" (for audio calls with multiple people we do recommend Appear.in though) Plus most volunteers have Slack app on their phone running in the background so they can easily take a call if they are free on their phone and do not need to be on the computer.
Web Whiteboard Collaborative whiteboarding, no password or account required.
Appear.in A Google Hangouts replacement that works better and is easier to include multiple people
Screen Hero Can share with multiple users and give users the ability to interact with your desktop. Voice/Audio chat also.
Slack Call other volunteers straight from your private message on Slack
Note.ly Very simple, do not even need to sign up
