Some improvement possibilities:

  • We should rephrase the goals to indicate that we are aiming to engage the community, not to push (outreach) the standards.

Some suggested changes, mostly to clean up the troublesome clauses about Specifications which a CG does not have. Broadened these to include "Deliverables" generally.

We should:

  • Check that the word "specifications" is not used for deliverables
  • We should specify that chat, social media and similar things that are not normative text are not considered contribution and thus the licensing or restrictions do not apply to them. However, we should mention that the W3C Code of Conduct still applies -> https://www.w3.org/Consortium/cepc/

Great, thanks!. I read "the group will not publish on topics other than those listed under [Deliverables]". However, there are no deliverables listed in the previous section. I suggest either rephrasing this sentence and/or removing the section deliverable. Thanks for your great job!

We can definitely do this. I think it is best to simply remove the deliverables section and change the sentence to "the group will not publish any deliverables"

There is also another issue in wot-marketing. Just to make sure the input doesn't get lost.

We can definitely do this. I think it is best to simply remove the deliverables section and change the sentence to "the group will not publish any deliverables"

I was scanning the document while trying to implement this change, and I found that also Contribution Mechanics section has some reference to the concept of deliverables:

<h2 id="contrib">
      Contribution Mechanics
    </h2>
    <p>
      Substantive Contributions to Deliverables can only be made by Community
      Group Participants who have agreed to the <a href=
      "http://www.w3.org/community/about/agreements/cla/">W3C Community
      Contributor License Agreement (CLA)</a>.
    </p>
    <p>
      Deliverables created in the Community Group should use the <a href=
      "http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Legal/2015/copyright-software-and-document">
      W3C Software and Document License</a> where possible.
    </p>
    <p>
      Community Group participants agree to make all contributions in the
      GitHub repo the group is using for each particular deliverable. This may be
      in the form of a pull request (preferred), by raising an issue, or by
      adding a comment to an existing issue.
    </p>
    <p>
      Only commits against this repository's deliverables are considered contributions.
      Discussions that take place in chat platforms, social media or similar are not contributions and
      are exempt from the rules that apply to the deliverables.
      However, <a href="https://www.w3.org/Consortium/cepc/">Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct</a> still applies.
    </p>

Removing completely the deliverable section makes also the Contribution Mechanics section a little bit confusing.

Talked offline with @egekorkan and we agreed to add a section under Deliverables to describe possible products created by the work of the community. Let us know if you find anything problematic.

Given that the review period is over, I will merge this PR and move the charter to the CG Website.
