Building the Web of Data about the Web of Data: Towards Visual Strategies on the Web
Technologies such as the Resource Description Framework (RDF) and Linked Open Data (LOD) are fostering data interoperability at a global level, thanks to their ability to explicitly connect data elements using common, web-describable relationships. Although recent efforts have demonstrated value in adopting Linked Data approaches, the full potential of this methodology is far from realized. Ironically, the Linked Data developer community itself is a significant barrier to leveraging the possibilities offered by a global cloud of interconnected data, since typical Linked Data applications require a swarm of resource-limited human activities to conceive, create, and maintain the desired results. We present the DataFAQs linked data quality evaluation framework as a means not only to automate the many mundane activities performed by Linked Data developers, but also as a computational mechanism that establishes observable representations of the many tacit aspects of Linked Open Data. Next, we provide an overview of the Provenance Data Model (PROV) being developed by the W3C. Finally, we revisit some principal topics from my previous years' talks and discuss how these new pieces develop the theme of addressing challenges of human consumption and elaboration of visual information situated on the web.
