GSoC 2015 Mentor Instructions

• It will be up to the mentors to help students apply to the best place. They can submit to multiple orgs if appropriate. Umbrella organizations that students can submit to:
  • PSF: Any SymPy related project.
  • NumFOCUS: Any SymPy related project.
  • Sage: Any SymPy related project, but those that specifically support Sage and Sagemathcloud are best.
  • SciRuby: CSymPy wrappers only.
  • lmonade: CSymPy projects.
  • Portland State University: CSymPy projects.
• Familiarize yourself with the guidelines from PSF, NumFOCUS, and SymPy:

• Join the PSF, NumFOCUS, and SymPy email lists:

• Create a new profile on Melange (even if you did so in previous years!)
• Fill out the mentor form for the PSF.
• Request a connection with both the PSF and NumFOCUS in Melange so that you can be recognized as a mentor. Connect with the other orgs too if relevant.
• Add your name to the SymPy wiki and the NumFOCUS mentor lists. Include both your Melange and Github handles:

• Edit our ideas page with your ideas. Add your name beside projects you are willing to mentor.
• Respond to all [1] students on the mailing lists and the chat rooms and help them develop their applications. The idea is to merge them into the community early on so that their proposal suits the community.
• Note that Google asks us to keep acceptance/rejection information under wraps until the official announcement.
