Winecfg is a tool built into Wine that lets you configure some technical aspects of Wine/Proton. These options include, but are not limited to:

  • Changing the version of Windows that Wine emulates. This can be useful for several older games that, or for installing some Winetricks that may only install if Wine is set to emulate an older version of Windows.
  • Configuring DLL overrides, which can be useful for some mods that rely on DLL injection.
  • Configure a Wine virtual desktop.
  • Enable/Disable custom Wine themes, as some themes can issues with graphical applications such as ModOrganizer 2.

You can enable Winetricks to run before your game launches by checking the "Winecfg" checkbox under Wine settings in the Game Menu.

You can also edit the Game Config and set RUN_WINECFG to 1.
