#Welcome to the Smartfin wiki!

##Smartfin Visit Here!

The Smartfin Project aims to unite the surfing community and the research community in an effort to fill this gap in our oceanographic data. It began years ago with the collaborative vision of Scientists and Researchers working with the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, who hoped to innovate a new way to model the behaviour of our oceans.

This project is also dedicated under the Engineers for Exploration program at UCSD, led by Phil and Jasmine Simmons, who have employed a team of engineers in Ryan Kastner's group-project course CSE 145 to take the next big steps for this project! Their goals for this quarter are the following:

#1. Determine the initial orientation of the Smartfin when it is powered on. #2. Calculate the Wave height, frequency, and direction based on its orientation. #3. Innovate new ways of tracking the geolocation of each Smartfin, and improve the robustness of data collection.
