Notes 04 16 2024
Notes from 4/16/2024:
-
In attendance MTC, Met Council, SFCTA, PSRC: Shimon, Flavia, Lisa, Jonathan, Joe, Drew, Chun Ho, Suzanne, Brian, Brice
-
Shimon described updates to Wiki that are intended: TNC imputation and weighting scripts repo along with accompanying memos
-
Drew provided detail about SFCTA's process/products from TNC Survey, including model estimation work. Estimation might be done decennially, could recalibrate work-at-home shares, etc. post-pandemic, market research on TDM strategies. Weight adjustments are done for day of week, etc. Up to 25% of trips are dropped, weights need to be updated in such processes. A "naive" weight correction approach was used last time.
-
A lot of discussion about bias in data reporting. Likely that a lot of people with complicated travel patterns are more likely to be thrown out than individuals/households with simpler travel patterns.
-
Proposal to document projects where we're intending to apply the data - on the wiki.
-
Identifying tasks for this pipeline (on the wiki) might also be helpful.
-
Developing best practice ideas for good imputation is a goal.
-
Brian suggests a page on the Wiki about tasks/themes by agency of ideas we want to explore, answer, etc. Could be one page with three columns for buckets - task level, project level, high-level research questions, wish list (fourth column)? Could be "gold standard" inclusive, but not essential. Write something down for iteration, discussion,
-
Drew nominated as project facilitator.
-
Suzanne and Brian discussed their presentation on work-at-home data. Concerns about having comparable numerators and denominators. Are data comparable? A lot of background discussion was required. Metadata for each chart will be useful. ACS data is hard to weave into these questions, in terms of assuring comparability.
