Example of how to find words:

Just paste text in OpenOffice or Thunderbird (I usually use TB) and see if any of it appear as typos.

It is also a good practice to press the "Forward" button on TB in technical Mailing Lists.

For example, a text that had "berk" reported it as a typo.

So, I went to the Oxford dictionaries on-line and wrote there the word and then clicked to show all the examples.

Then I selected the whole text and pasted it into TB and the results were:

  • berk AND berks were missing in en_GB.

So, I had Proofing Tool GUI running and the first thing I did was to:

  1. Press CTR+F (Find) to search if it exists. I searched for singular since, if there was a plural in the word list, it would appear since it is singular+"s";

  2. The words singular+plural weren't there, so I pressed CTR+A (add) and typed:

  • berk/S This generated:
  • berk
  • berks
  1. Then I pressed RETURN or OKAY

  2. I pressed SAVE (CTR+S) to save the wordlist.

This is the regular procedure to adding words:

  1. Spot typos in TB/AOO
  2. Search for the words on on-line dictionaries
  3. Search for the words in PTG (first with singular forms, if plural has an S at the end)
  4. Add the words and derivates
  5. Save the wordlist
  6. Search for similar words in Oxford suggestions and go back to step 1)

Adding names:

  1. Search for names in Oxford or Wikipedia
  2. Press CTR+F on Firefox and search for the name PLUS 's to check if it has possessive form (remember to search in all Wikipedia examples until you find an example of a possessive form)
  3. In case the name ends with an S try to find the possessive with just ' (without 's)
  4. In case it is found search first in PTG for the name without possessive
  5. Add the name to PTG and save the wordlist
