Installation Types Overview
There are several possible ways to install the GMS depending on your needs and available resources. These might include dedicated hardware with considerable RAM, CPUs, and local storage. Or you might chose to install the GMS within a virtual environment of another system (Mac, Windows or Linux). Finally you might decide to deploy the GMS on a cloud computing platform. Each of these options has been tested by us and we provide various documentation and tutorials related to each strategy in the following locations:
The main Install page covers this option. We tested the GMS on a variety of dedicated hardware ranging from a consumer desktop PC (64Gb RAM, 8 CPUs, 4 Tb SATA storage) in a residential home to a large server at The Genome Institute (1 Tb RAM, 80 CPUs, 2 Tb Fusion I/O storage). The use of dedicated hardware is also described in the Beginner's Guide to Installation page.
