Naviglass Android Application

Introduction

About this repository

This repository contains code for an Android application that was one component of a team project, called Naviglass. The project Naviglass consisted of a pair of virtual reality eye-glasses and a Raspberry Pi attached to the glasses, in addition to this Android application. This app uses Google Maps API to provide several features that require a map. Also, it sends important data (e.g. location, directions) to the Raspberry Pi over a Bluetooth connection.

About Naviglass, the team project

People rely on map applications on their devices to reach their destination. The intention of project Naviglass was to provide an alternative option of navigating through an area that would not require looking at phones for directions as much, and instead allow people to focus on the real-life view ahead. To use Naviglass, you would wear the glasses, open the app, and connect to the Raspberry Pi with Bluetooth from the app. Naviglass had objectives similar to that of Google Glass, but hoped to be more intuitive to use by highlighting roads, landmarks, and directions in the user's field of view. The app was developed by myself, and the Pi and the glasses were designed by others on my team.
