MyPintools

This repo is the collection of pintools I made for various research projects.

How to build?

# Download the MyPintools repo
git clone https://github.com/varungohil/MyPintools.git

# Copy the pintools folder inside Pin's tools folder
# $PIN_HOME is set to the root directot of Intel Pin
cp -r MyPintools/pintools/ $(PIN_HOME)/source/tools/

#Build the pintools
cd $(PIN_HOME)/source/tools/pintools
make
# This would create a obj-intel64 or obj-ia32 folder with *.so files depending on your machine's architecture.

How to use?

After building you can use the pintools in the same way any other pintool is used. For a 64 bit machine, the command would be as follows:

$(PIN_HOME)/pin -t $(PIN_HOME)/source/tools/pintools/obj-intel64/<tool-name>.so -- <path_to_app>

After completion of execution, you can find the results in <tool-name>.out file in your current working directory.

List of Pintools

  • fpmov: Counts the number of floating point MOV instructions performed by a workload.
  • fpmul: Counts the number of floating point multiplications (single precision and double precision) performed by a workload.

For more details on the tools, read the documents in the docs folder.
