e Go Congress Tournament Descriptions
This is to provide a markdown tournament description for adding to the gocongress.org site. These differ from in-person congress tournament descriptions.
Welcome to the e-Go Congress Online Open! This page contains all the information you need to participate. Please read this page carefully and reach out to the TD at open@gocongress.org with any questions.
An instructional video with a walkthrough of how to find your pairs and create your game will help setup your games.

Once your game is finished, you must fill out the results submission form.
###Online Open Player List###
Attention all players! Please check the player list to confirm that you are properly registered. The list is alphabetized by OGS username. Please note that the pairing software changes the capitalization of usernames.
Please confirm that your OGS username is correct, that your rank is correct, and that your round participation is correct (noted in the “Participation” column as + for participating and - for skipping). Ignore the RT and MM columns. This player list was created based on the check-in form. If you are not on this list but should be, it’s because we are missing either your check-in information or your OGS handle.
Please contact the TD at open@gocongress.org with any corrections or additions as soon as possible.
All games will be played on OGS. Please be sure to join the AGA group on OGS so that you are aware of important announcements.

- Round 1: Saturday, 7/17 at 4p EDT/1p PDT (note the different time)
- Round 2: Sunday, 7/18 at 1p EDT/10a PDT
- Round 3: Sunday, 7/18 at 7p EDT/4p PDT (note the different time)
- Round 4: Saturday, 7/24 at 1p EDT/10a PDT
Time Settings: 1 hour main time, 5 periods of 30 seconds byo-yomi (for all players)
Platform: The e-Go Congress Open will be hosted on OGS. For more information, check out the OGS e-Go Congress handbook.
Description: e-Go Congress Open is a four-round, Swiss-McMahon style tournament. It is the main tournament of the e-Go Congress.
Byes: If you have to skip a round, you must request a “bye” from the TD before 8:00 p EDT the night before that round. You can email the TD at open@gocongress.org. If a bye is not requested ahead of time and you miss a round, you will automatically forfeit the game.
Handicaps: Games will be even in most sections, with a compensation to white (komi) of 7.5 points. In handicap games, komi for white is 0.5 points. In the lower kyu sections the TD will assign handicaps based on rank -2. (Example: a 7k and a 5k will play even, but a 5k will give a 9k a two stone handicap.)
Any handicap games will be noted on the pairing sheet. Only play at a handicap if the pairing sheet includes handicap information for your match.
Rules: AGA rules will be used. Komi for white is 7.5 points.
Prizes: Top players in each section will receive awards. Award sections will be divided based on the number of participants at each entering rank.
No-Show Opponents Players have 20 minutes to show up for their game after the start of the round. If they do not show up in 20 minutes, they will receive a bye-loss.

Please note that OGS usernames will be used for pairing. Once pairs are posted, players will be required to find their opponent on OGS and coordinate with them to create a game using the correct tournament settings.
Pairs and results will be linked on this page. Pairings will go up at least one hour before the start of each round, and standings will be posted as soon as all results are in.

Time Settings: 5 minutes main time with 3 periods of 10 second byo-yomi.
Platform: The Blitz Tournament will be hosted on KGS. If you don’t have a KGS account, sign up on their website. The KGS Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are listed on their website.
Description: Each day of the Blitz Tournament will be set up as a “mini-tournament.” We will play 3 rounds each day. Players will be split into groups of 8. So someone will always win all their games in each group. We announce winners of each group on a daily basis. Each day of the tournament I will regroup people so you won’t be in the same group of 8 people. After each day of games, players’ tournament rating will be adjusted. +1 for each win. There is no upper limit.
Byes: If you have to skip a day, you must request a “bye” from the TD before 8:00p EDT the night before that round. (Email the TD)[mailto:blitz@gocongress.org]. If a bye is not requested ahead of time and you miss a round, you will automatically forfeit the game.

Prizes: The winners of each group will be announced daily. At the end of the four days, we will declare anyone that wins every single game to be an honorary AI. Top players in each section will receive awards. Award sections will be divided based on the number of participants at each entering rank.

Pairings

Platform: The 9x9 tournament will be hosted on OGS. For more information, check out the OGS e-Go Congress handbook.
Description: 9x9 games played in six-person round-robin tables (five rounds).
Results: One player from each table will be declared the “Table Winner.” Table winners will meet in a playoff to determine Division winners. There will be three divisions: Dan, Single-digit kyu, and Double-digit kyu.
Rules: AGA rules will be used. Komi is variable depending on rank difference. No handicap stones will be used.
Prizes: The winners and two runner-ups of each division will receive an award after the finals are completed.

Time Settings: 30 minutes main time with 3 periods of 30 second byo-yomi.
Platform: The Double-Digit Kyu Tournament will be hosted on KGS. The KGS Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are available here: http://gokgs.com/tos.jsp. If you don’t have a KGS account, sign up on their website.
Description: Two rounds will be played on each day of the DDK Tournament. The first round will begin promptly at 8:00 p.m. EDT/ 5:00 p.m. PDT. You need to be signed in to KGS and in the AGA Tournament Room at least 30 minutes before the start so that you can find your pairing. Game challenges need to be posted and ready to start on time.
You need to install freeware Client and SGF Editor CGoban first: KGS is not available for iPad. If you don’t have a KGS account, sign up on their website. Please don’t use “the Shin KGS Web Interface” or “the GoUniverse Chrome Extension”. Pairings: A link to the pairings spreadsheet will be posted in the AGA Tournament Room before 6 pm EDT. Pairings will be posted for the first game on Tuesday and the first game on Wednesday. The player taking Black should create the game.
**Time and Date:** Round 1: Thursday, August 6 at 8p EDT/5p PDT Round 2: Thursday, August 6 at 9:30p EDT/6:30p PDTPlatform: The Pair Go Tournament will be hosted on Pandanet. You must have the newest version of Pandanet(GoPanda2).
The Pandanet (IGS) Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are available on their site.
If you don’t have a Pandanet account, sign up on their site.
Game Setup: The settings for this tournament should already be pre-set. Make sure Black player 1 and white player 1 are female.
Time Settings: 20 minutes and 2 stones per 60 seconds.
Description: This is a team tournament with teams made up of two people, usually one male and one female player. The players may not consult with each other during the game.
Brackets:
Teams will be put in brackets based on combined rank which will be calculated by the Tournament Director.
The four teams in the same bracket will be seeded according to their respective combined ranks.
In the first round, the No. 1 seed will play the No. 2 seed, while the No. 3 seeds will play the No. 4 seed.
In the second round, the winners will play and the losers will play.
Game Results: After the game, the winning team marks itself in the Official Bracket.
Rule Set: Japanese rules
The finals will be played on Pandanet on Friday July 23rd. The final round will be reviewed live on Twitch.
**Relay Go** Updates and Pairings To play in the tournament, make sure you have Zoom installed. We will send you a link to the tournament site after you join the Zoom meeting on Saturday (you received a link in your email). Make sure to join the meeting 10 minutes earlier (7:50pm EDT) to better prepare yourself for the tournament. We will close final check-ins on the tournament site at 8:10pm EDT sharp.Players should follow the (instructions with graphic walkthrough)[https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1udy922kv5UNiIGP5P5c365r05K4zSxpCtVSKCpZ3laE/edit#gid=1163915458] before the tournament. Due to uncertainties of an online tournament, we anticipate the final pairings to vary slightly.
Time and Date: 8/8 at 8p EDT/5p PDT Time Settings: 80 minutes per team, absolute time Platform: The Relay Tournament will be hosted on OGS and Zoom. Handicaps: No handicaps as each team will be pre-assigned by rank Rules: AGA rules will be used. Komi for white is 7.5 points. Prizes: Appointed captains of each team will receive awards. Also two Most Valuable Players (MVP) of each winning team will receive awards
Description: We will most likely run four games at once. Each game consists of two teams competing against each other in Rengo format (two players from team A vs. two players from team B). Each team has one coach and two people playing rengo at a time. The coach will be in the Zoom study room with all other players to strategize. **Contest Submission** *Entries can be submitted here.Timeline *Contest Opens: 12 pm EDT on Monday, July 20 *Contest Closes: 11pm EDT on Monday, August 3 *Voting on Finalists Opens: 12pm EDT on Thursday, August 6 *Voting on Finalists Closes: 12pm EDT on Saturday, August 8
Rules of the Contest Subject matter: Should relate to Go in some way. Length: each entry should fit on a single, double-spaced page. Use two columns if necessary. If two pages are used, it may be edited for publication. There are two separate competitions: Poetry and Song. There is a maximum of three entries per person total. For each written entry in either contest, a performance/reading of that entry may be uploaded as an audio/video attachment as well. The performance may be played for winners in the closing ceremony. *Entries may not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. *Your uploaded written entry file should make NO REFERENCE to the author. All entries will be judged anonymously and solely based on the written entry. If two judges know the author of a piece, it will be disqualified. *Entries remain the property of the author. However, the AGA is entitled to print the entry in the AGA Songbook, and the AGA E-Journal. *The contest is open to all current AGA members, and members of their immediate family. (Spouse, Children, grandchildren, parents, and grandparents.) The contest is also open to all participants in the e-Go Congress and their immediate family. *The judges will select the finalists. An online vote will determine the winners. Any performance attachment will not be viewed by the judges nor shown as part of the online vote.
Identification of Pieces Because judges will view your piece as an anonymous entry, it is important that you do two things:
- DO NOT INCLUDE any identifying information in the *Title of your entry *Special information about your entry *File with your written entry
- DO INCLUDE the title of your entry on the file(s) that you upload. Use the same title on any performance file. This will be the only way that we can identify your written entry and, if needed, the performance file. Judging of the Contest *A panel of 3-5 judges will each read and rate all entries. The top scoring entries will become the finalists. *A small number of entries that become finalists will be publicized on the AGA’s Twitch channel. Online voters will choose the winners from among the finalists. Note: Youth (< 18) entries are encouraged and may be judged separately.
Awards and Prizes *The number of prizes to be awarded in each category will be determined at the sole discretion of the judges. *Selected winning entries may be read and/or sung at the closing ceremony, and subsequently may be published in the AGA EJournal, and a future edition of the AGA songbook. *Note: There is a special prize for best first time submission.
Additional Information Keep in mind that if you are writing a parody of a song or poem, the judges may or may not be familiar with that work. If there is any special information we should know about the origin of your piece, please include that information below. We need both the name and the author of the original and, if possible, also provide a recording of the original song or a text of the poem.

**Official Beginners Teaching** If you are interested in learning how to play go, or if you have friends who are interested in learning to play, we will have a comprehensive beginners teaching session. New players are free to stay for as much or little time as they want, and to arrive any time during the Teaching session.*Time: Tuesday, 8/4 8pm-11pm EDT/5pm-8pm PDT
Drop-In Hours We’re pleased to be able to offer drop-in teaching for beginners. We will have a teacher on hand to show the basics to new players.
