In this release, we extended betsy from Windows-only to *nix systems and can confirm that engine benchmarking works on Ubuntu. Furthermore, the release includes regular maintainence, updates and a number of minor fixes and improvements.

Highlights:

  • All platform-specific calls and command scripts have been duplicated for both operating environments.
  • Benchmarks can now be executed in contemporary public continuous integration infrastructure and also in container environments.
  • Engines now use a consistent naming scheme: NAME__VERSION[__CONFIG]*
    Examples: bpelg__5_3__in-memory, ode__1_3_6, openesb__2_2__virtual

After one year since its first major release, we are proud to release the second major release with the following additional features:

  • Fully automated conformance testing of three BPMN engines
  • 70 conformance tests for a variety of BPMN features
  • Separating the code base into three parts, namely, BPEL, BPMN and process-language independent packages

The changes are detailed in a conference proceedings paper accepted at the 9th International Symposium on Service-oriented System Engineering (SOSE 2015). A preprint of the paper can be found here.

Betsy is a tool to check the degree of conformance of a BPEL engine against the BPEL standard. In this release, betsy was used to determine both the robustness capabilities and the static analysis conformance of BPEL engines. Both papers are presented at the 7th IEEE International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA 2014).

  • Fully automated conformance testing of nine BPEL engines
  • Almost 250 conformance tests for all features of BPEL
  • Highly configurable test setup
  • Easily readable and graphical display of test results
  • Option for virtual deployment of engines
  • GUI for installing, starting and uninstalling engines
  • Minimalistic software requirements

Betsy is a tool to check the degree of conformance of a BPEL engine against the BPEL standard. In this release, betsy was extended to vbetsy which supports the use of virtualization techniques to speed up the overall testing time for the paper "Automated and Isolated Tests for Complex Middleware Products: The Case of BPEL Engines" which was presented at the 7th International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation in the Testing Tools Track. A preprint version of the paper is available here .
