This repo demonstrates that using the jupyter labextension @8080labs/qgrid fixes the incompatibility issue of qgrid version 1.1.1 with jupyter lab 1.0 or higher.
Simply run the following:
pip install qgrid
jupyter labextension install @8080labs/qgrid
