Typography suggests using … over ... or even . . . for ellipsis.

Not sure if that could break compatibility... Must check the charset of Wernicke first.

Probably the repo needs some automated testing for these kinds of situations

Indeed. I was thinking of a GitHub Action that spins severals readers running a comprehension test.
