conda is the package manager endorsed by Anaconda and not pip, which we currently use. While the official documentation does not prevent using pip when conda is present, user reports warn against this practice.

Also, see #298 for a specific instance in which pip was not updated by Anaconda for a while, and resulted in ugly warning messages.
