Bash

Some of these are for mac and some are for linux!

Most used commands

  1. Reset current project state completely - git reset --hard
  2. Connect to a remove server - ssh name@0.0.0.0
  3. Search shell history - history | grep search-term
  4. Wander - cd..
  5. List files - ls -al
  6. Search for a file by name recursively (current directory) - find . -name filename.txt

Search your history

history | grep searchString

Generate an SSH key

Simple

ssh-keygen

Advanced

ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -o -a 100

File count of current directory, recursize:

find . -print | wc -l

Resize files with imagemagikc and shell

  1. find . -type f -name "*.jpg" -exec convert "{}" -quality 50 -resize 255 "{}.tmp" \;
  2. find . -iname "*.jpg.tmp" -exec bash -c 'mv "$0" "${0//\.thm\.jpg/thm\.jpg}"' {} \;

Replace file extension for every file in current directory

find . -iname "*.mustache" -exec bash -c 'mv "$0" "${0%\.mustache}.php"' {} \;

Remove '?123123' from the end of all files in the current directory

for file in *
do
	echo $file
    new=$(echo $file | sed -e 's/\?[0-9]*$//')
    mv -v "$file" "$new"
 done

List all files changed within the last 30 minutes (current directory, recursive)

find . -type d -name .git -prune -o -mmin -30 -type f -print

Pretend you are Mozilla, download entire websites

wget -r -p -U Mozilla <url>

String replace function

function str_replace( $1, $2 ){ find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 sed -i 's/$1/$2/g' }

<? to <?php (Recursively)

find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 sed -i 's/<?=/<?php echo /g';

find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 sed -i 's/<?/<?php/g';

find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 sed -i 's/phpphp/php/g';

Top Ten Largest Files/Folders

du -hsx * | sort -rh | head -10

Better git log, just type git lg in a repository folder and see.

git config --global alias.lg "log --color --graph --pretty=format:'%Cred%h%Creset -%C(yellow)%d%Creset %s %Cgreen(%cr) %C(bold blue)<%an>%Creset' --abbrev-commit"

Users

Add a user:

useradd -m -g users -s /bin/bash -p $(echo your_password | openssl passwd -1 -stdin) your_username

Delete a user:

userdel username

Search

Recursively search files for a string:

grep -r "your string" .

Recursive string replace:

find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 sed -i 's/<search>/<replace>/g'

Show all Vhosts setup in apache

apachectl -t -D DUMP_VHOSTS
