I implemented a delta in time to serve as a seismic source. My hope by doing so is to be able to extract Green's functions for a particular medium and various receiver positions.
Does it make sense? (I am not at all an expert in wave propagation, wave equation solver, etc)
EDIT: As a check, I convolved the estimated Green's function for a particular medium and a particular receiver position with another source signal (White Noise or Ricker Wavelet) and compared the result with the output of the Pysit solver for the same medium and the same receiver position. The recorded seismogram matches (up to numerical precision) the one obtained by convolution with the estimated Green's function. This seems to indicate that it works as I expected.
