August 31th

Summary

  • arturh is trying to do a local intallation on a macbook with no luck, and is going to try with a virtualbox.
  • we had a call at 10:30 with John, Philipp Jessica and Zuzel in which we decide what we were going to work on this week.
  • jledbetter is going to work on having metrics UI and what is left of the backed ready for production.
  • zuzelvp an arlton will be going through what is already in arlton forks and trying to pull things into lernanta piece by piece (on the time left arlton will keep working in other pending ux changes).
  • john will get feedback from the community about the bits that need an ok from them.

August 24th

Summary

  • p2pu projects that need dev support in the short term: SoW, Metrics, School of Ed, Badges, DIY U, ...
  • arlton is not in a hurry to merge the UX changes on release 1.3.
  • we decided to setup a one demo for jledbetter and another one for arlton so people can see their work on alpha.
  • http://coin.5cat.com:8080/job/lernanta/ is on green but the setup does not work (probably a couple of files on disk need to be changed).
  • gvwilson got us a Makefile for dev stuff.

August 17th

Summary

  • zuzelvp will be working on improvements to uploads (set upload quotas and file types, no .iso etc.), embeds (check other possible external dependencies), and email subscription settings (we have a lot of feedback about what to change here). If time permits will take on other tickets releated to will email notifications and role changes.
  • jledbetter is working on metrics for PD on P2PU and will send drag and drop diff to zuzelvp.
  • we are getting a ssl certificate so we will include soon https:// for login.
  • arlton was able to setup the dev environment and jledbetter got feedback on issues with the db migrations.
  • we added a couple of feature requested for the OBI (brian) releated to what happens when users change emails on the issuer side and when the badge manifest urls change.
  • arlton will have a meeting with a ui person at mozilla to discuss the site, changes, etc. and plans to have a rough draft for the p2pu homepage and sow homepage done by the end of the week. john, crystal, and him have been discussing layouts and how things will be changing, what we're adding, etc. the goals right now are to create an updated look for SoW and for P2PU overall -- http://pad.p2pu.org/webcraft-ux (have to confirm timeframe but as we know the goal is to have the new design launched by mid october).
  • we talked about badges and zuzelvp has as todo giving another round of feedback to http://pad.p2pu.org/badge-integration and make sure others give feedback before Jessica finishes Pd o P2PU metrics work and jumps into badges.
  • we talked about integrating facebook (for social networking purposes and login) and zuzelvp forwarded old thread about facebook 'like' to arlton.
  • we also talkd about bringing back google logins after we restric the login pages to only one domain.

  • jledbetter in charge of reviewing/modifing/merging pull request from the workshop related to metrics on schools.
  • zuzelvp prepared anonymized db for metrics dev work (so we can test performance).
  • we are considering using a cron that generates the reports if it is to slow to do it on demand.
  • we are collaborating with the developers of django nose to fix the issues causing problems when we run our tests
  • jledbetter working on metrics, badges, tags bug + merging pull requests

  • This week we had an skype meeting just before the irc meeting and it got extended into the dev meeting because all the people at the irc were also on the call
  • We talked about Google talk and why we are going to track visit related metrics on our side.

  • talked about bits of the assessment design group call last Monday: 1-3 votes, gurus assessing peers feedback, more granular badges.
  • zuzelvp has been working on signup customizations starting by splitting pages, comments, and signup into different django apps.

  • johndbritton did a working session with UX guy and is planning to read through all the tickets at lighthouse.

  • During this week we had a change of to support PD on P2PU which starts this fall
  • zuzelvp started working on the first steps for uploads support and is now working on signup customizations.
  • jledbetter got organizer tagging of groups in master and started working on drag drop of tasks.
  • jledbetter will be starting to work in the analytics requests for PD/P2PU. The first step is trying to pull in web analytics from Google.
  • wireframes for 0.1 inclusion of assessments/badges is on hold waiting for call with with erin, the assessment designer, and a "review group" of assessment experts.
  • discussed possibility of moving release days from Sunday to a weekday (possibly Tuesday).

July 13th

  • from this week we will be using a branch for releases so people can keep working on master after the feature freeze (translations and bug fixes will be merged into the release branch).
  • zuzelvp is working on refactoring content/models.py and page/models.py to prepare for having pages in schools and improving groups sign-up.
  • confirmed brianloveswords got anonymized copies of the databases so he can start working on issuing the pilot badges to the open badges infrastructure.
  • jledbetter is trying to figure out where she is in the scheme of badge stuff and working on plain lernanta stuff until then
  • Mentioned bits about the WebMaker badge from the SoW call on Tuesday.
  • gvwilson is organizing a meet-up/code-in for people who want to get into Lernanta development in the Toronto area.

Summary

  • There were three new faces in this meeting: LauraHilliger, PforPein, and jgay
  • A project in which jgay is working is considering using lernanta for its site.
  • LauraHilliger participated in the drumbeat call in which Pippa talked about SoW.
  • PforPein has being working on setting up the dev environment and is a participant on the Introduction to Contributing to Lernanta study group.
  • zuzelvp has been working on school feature request (organizers can configure styles and images for the school and the process for accepting groups into the school changed), and has been cleaning up the activities and relationships logic so we can bring some of the project features into the school home pages without duplicating the source code.
  • jledbetter has been working on tags (ran into issues with taggit not liking multiple tagmanagers to one model but trying a few ways to get that going) and is recovering from the conference and on travel (will be home the following week).

  • zuzelvp proposed not doing the feature freeze during this Thrusday since there are not many features implemented for 0.8 (no objections expressed)
  • we disused about this weekend domain name change, migration of living courses, and the notification message to be send to the mailing lists and to all the users of the site.

  • zuzelvp is still writing http://pad.p2pu.org/future and tickets set as open are the ones already mentioned on that pad
  • vtamara submitted pull request for internationalization of static pages
  • P2Philipp and vtamara have to discuss by email about giving credit in the supporters page to vtamara's organization ("Pasos de Jesus") for starting and maintaining the translation of Lernanta to Spanish.
  • there can be issues in translating pages like privacy guidelines and the terms of use without the review of a layer so we need to get advice about it and keep them in English in the mean time.
  • vtamara thinks that can give some time to implementing preview for task page edits for release 0.8.
  • Updated ticket about improving readability of static pages with comments from the dev meeting.
  • jtatum wants to expand some test coverage probably starting with projects app.
  • we will be using http://coin.5cat.com:8080/ as continuous integration server until we have time to move it to a p2pu server.
  • jledbetter will start working on allowing users to tag different elements inside p2pu. tickets related to this are: #3, #111, #93, and #40
  • updated ticket about inviting friends to join p2pu with comments from the meeting
  • zuzelvp will keep working on preparing the roadmap (finish writing http://pad.p2pu.org/future), and tickets related to the migration (#348,#388, #401, #370). After these are done zuzelvp proposed to select other tickets to work on from the "Joining and Leaving Groups", and "Support Learning and Communication" subsections of pad.p2pu.org/future (e.g., #81,#406, #269)
  • philipp proposed making schools main priority after or besides the migration. the school ticket #132 was updated with comments from the dev meeting, and tickets #152, #145, #286, #255, and #137 were mentioned as examples of things that need to be improved/implemented for schools.
  • philipp is meeting with a designer friend who will maybe have some suggestions for our logo
