Charity event manager

Why ?

As part of having kids, I was exposed to an amazing charity that helped disabled kids get into sport. This specific charity has transformed the life of my daughter and many others.

Many of these charities don't have big budgets, or IT departments to fall back on. I have hoped to be able to help in some way, and as I work in the field of IT that seemed like an obvious place to start.

Why would I want to donate my time and skills to such a project ?

You will be helping families across the world give their children the confidence they will need to take the world head on. You are enabling laughter, concentration, friendships and focus on sport and the ability to compete on a level with their peers.

What does good look like ?

I'd love for the organisation to be able to put a credit card into a cloud platform and press a button. From that point on an ephemeral, scalable platform is started and run for the duration of the event.

What kind of events are we talking about ?

The charity I'm involved with organises a large national event with 1000+ athletes and families, and every 4 years an international event that can be multiples of that size.

Currently, the event is managed using 57 MS Excel spreadsheets, each linked using sheet references. There must be a better way!

Who are we ?

So far, it's just me. I have an idea and some skills, but i'm realistic enough to know that I can't do this alone. I'm the furthest thing from a developer you can imagine. My background is almost all system administration, automation and infrastucture design and architecture.

What does this project need ?

I will of course, be learning as many skills as I can learn. If you have skills such as...

  • Python 3
  • HTML/CSS3/JavaScript
  • UX design
  • Document writers
  • Automated code deployment
  • Graphic designers
  • Security testers
  • Any skills around testing of the above

Please let us know if you can help.
