Hi Mikeycal, thank you for making this excellent script.
I have added a very simple progress indicator that just captures the output and counts the rendered frames. I've only tested it on Linux and Windows, and with only a couple of .blend files, but it seems to work OK. There is probably some overhead added from this, I can't really tell but a flag to turn off the progress indicator could be added if it's a problem.
Feel free to merge it, ignore it, or use it as inspiration for something else.
