Couchbase and Java EE

This workspace will show how to query a Couchbase bucket using simple Java EE application deployed on WildFly. Alternative configuration is also provided to deploy on Payara/GlassFish.

How to run?

Start Application

  1. Create a new Docker Machine:

    docker-machine create -d virtualbox --virtualbox-disk-size "5000" couchbase-javaee

  2. Connect to Docker Machine:

    eval $(docker-machine env couchbase-javaee)

  3. Start the application environment using Docker Compose file

    1. To deploy on WildFly: https://github.com/arun-gupta/docker-images/blob/master/wildfly-couchbase-javaee7/docker-compose.yml

    2. To deploy on JBoss EAP: https://github.com/arun-gupta/docker-images/blob/master/jboss-eap7-nosql/docker-compose.yml.

    3. To deploy on Payara/GlassFish: https://github.com/OndrejM/couchbase-javaee/blob/payara-profile/src/main/docker/images/payara/docker-compose.yml

      docker-compose --x-networking up -d

CI/CD with Docker + Jenkins

Set up Jenkins Master

  1. Set up an instance with CS engine on it: https://docs.docker.com/docker-trusted-registry/install/install-csengine/

  2. After you set up CS engine , pull Jenkins image

    docker pull jenkins

  3. Run the Jenkins container and expose it on a port (example : 49001) https://hub.docker.com/_/jenkins/

    docker run -d -p 49001:8080 -v $PWD/jenkins:/var/lib/jenkins -t zaiste/jenkins

  4. Verify by launching a browser with the Jenkins server ip and port 49001

    http://<ip-address>:49001

Set up Jenkins Slave (Optional)

Install the Github Plugin

  1. This ensures that the build from git gets pushed to jenkins where you are building the images

  2. https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/GitHub+Plugin

  3. Very simply go to Manage Plugins and install the Github and Docker plugins

Install and configure Docker Trusted Registry (DTR)

  1. Install the CS engine on the instance

  2. Install DTR

    1. Log in to the machine where you want to install Trusted Registry.

    2. Verify that CS Engine is installed

      docker —version

    3. docker login

    4. Install DTR: sudo bash -c "$(sudo docker run docker/trusted-registry install)"

    5. Enter the https://<host-ip>/ in your browser’s address bar to run the Trusted Registry interface.
