Overview of Election Audit with Python:

Purpose

The goal of this project was to provide futher analysis of the election results data and deliver the following information:

• The voter turnout for each county
• The percentage of votes from each county out of the total count
• The county with the highest turnout

In this congressional election there were a total of 369,711 votes cast

Votes/Percentages by county

Jefferson county was responsible for 10.5 percent of the vote with 38,855.

Denver county brought in 82.8 percent of the votes with 306,055.

Arapahoe county had 6.7 percent of the votes with 24,801.

Largest Turnout

Denver was the county with the largest turnout at 306,055 votes

Votes/Percentages by candidate

Charles Casper Stockham recieved 23.0 percent of the votes with 85,213.

Diana DeGette recieved 73.8 percent of the votes with 272,892.

Raymon Anthony Doane recieved 3.1 percent of the votes with 11.606.

The winner of this election was Diana DeGette who had 73.8 percent of the votes with 272,892.

Election-Audit Summary

There is a statement to the election commission that explores how this script can be used for any election, with two examples for modifying the script. This analysis can be modified to work with other elections. With small modifications it can be adapted for any region or level. The percentage levels can be focused in at higher or lower levels as well. The candidate percentage could be defined on a smaller, more accurate level leading to better predictions of future outcomes. Another potential modification would be to take advantage of demographic information such as age, sex, or even household income. This would require more data for the necessary adaptations but could provide beneficial insight.
