The 2020 COVID 19 (SARS Coronavirus) has turned out to be the worst pandemic in modern history of the human civilisation. With over 34.5 million confirmed COVID-19 cases till date, it is important that awareness about this disease is spread through whatever means possible.

This is one such project in which current statistics related to COVID-19 outbreak are fetched and displayed, in a way understandable by the common man

What is Covid-19

In early 2020, after the December 2019 outbreak of an unknown virus in China, the World Health Organization identified SARS-CoV-2 or Covid 19 as a new type of coronavirus. The outbreak quickly spread around the world and has led to world wide disruption of industries. Most of the common strains of coronaviruses are not harmful or dangerous unlike COVID 19. The virus triggers , what is known by doctors as a respiratory tract infection which spreads via person to person contact. It has more than one strain and belongs to the family of 7 coronavirus species two of which are extremely dangerous : The MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and the SARS (Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome).

What are the symptoms of Covid-19 ?

One of the most common strains of COVID-19 undergoes asymptomatic transmission , In other words it does not exhibit any specific symptoms , which makes diagnosis even harder. But , some of the strains (varies person to person) do show symptoms which include :

  1. Fever
  2. Coughing
  3. Shortness of Breath
  4. Trouble Breathing
  5. Fatigue
  6. Body Ache
  7. Nausea
  8. Loss of smell or taste , etc

If you have these symptoms persistently , then the most obvious advice is to consult a doctor with reference to your previous travel records.

The virus can lead to pneumonia, respiratory failure, heart problems, liver problems, septic shock, and death. Many COVID-19 complications may be caused by a condition known as cytokine release syndrome or a cytokine storm. This is when an infection triggers your immune system to flood your bloodstream with inflammatory proteins called cytokines. They can kill tissue and damage your organs.

How to prevent infection

  1. Cover your nose and mouth in public places
  2. Do not touch your face without sanitising your hands first.
  3. Clean and disinfect any article you use , frequently .
  4. Always wear a face mask when present in crowded zones.
