πŸš€ Welcome to the HoloViz 2024 GSoC Application Guide! 🌟

We're thrilled that you're considering joining us. We highly recommend that you reach out via HoloViz Discord (new-contributors channel) ASAP to register your interest and start the discussion about mentorship, project ideas, and weekly timeline.

Note, the timeline for GSoC 2024 is here.

We will prioritize applicants with:

  • Clear and detailed application
  • Relevant prior experience
  • Experience contributing to HoloViz or other open-source projects
  • Understanding of Git and/or GitHub

In addition to all requirements at the Google Summer of Code Site, here's what you need to include in your final application:

πŸ“„ 1. Your CV/Resume

In addition to your qualifications and relevant experience, please include the essentials:

  • Name (include pronunciation or nickname if you want)
  • Location or Time Zone
  • Contact Info (email, phone, etc)
  • GitHub Handle
  • HoloViz Discord Handle
  • University, program, year, expected graduation date (if applicable)
  • Other Useful Links: Got a LinkedIn, personal website, or portfolio?

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» 2. Code Sample

If you've contributed to HoloViz already, or have a couple of sweet PRs elsewhere that you want us to check out, link us to them! Just make sure it's your own work, and that it's publicly visible.

βœ‰οΈ 3. Your Cover Letter and Project Plans

Help us get to know you better by addressing the following:

  • Your Interest: What interests you about HoloViz?
  • Working Together: How can we support you to bring out your best? Share any techniques or tools you use to stay organized.
  • Information about other commitments that might affect your ability to work during the GSoC period. (exams, classes, holidays, other jobs, weddings, etc.) We can work around a lot of things, but it helps to know in advance.
  • Project Selection: If a project from our suggested ideas list caught your eye, share why you chose it and why you're the perfect fit to tackle it. Then, provide a weekly timeline of steps you could take to accomplish this. You can find a template of a weekly timeline here. Remember, this is just a starting point - we'll fine-tune the details together.
  • Alternatively, Your Own Idea: Got a proposal of your own? We'd love to hear it! Include a brief proposal with a clear goal, rationale, and a weekly timeline. You can find a template of a weekly timeline here. Remember, this is just a starting point - we'll fine-tune the details together.
