To run the application you need the latest version of Play 2.0 as of february 01 2012. To obtain it, you can clone the repository: 
git clone git://github.com/playframework/Play20.git

Then
git clone git://github.com/fcroiseaux/gildedrose.git
cd gildedrose
play run

Open a browser on http://localhost:9000

To run the unit tests :
play test
