Podman (rootless) seems to have a similar issue to Docker, where the wrong port is detected.
I was able to fix the issue by running the container with the alternative port handler, using --network=slirp4netns:port_handler=slirp4netns.

I was wondering whether this parameter has significant drawbacks or not. If not, this information should probably be added to the readme.
