Nefarious is the IRC server component (ircd). It provides a standards based service to allow any IRC client to connect. It also has many optional extensions including: Login on connect, RBL checking, host hiding, and more.

Nefarious2 is a ground-up rewrite of the nefarious features on top of a more modern ircu version. It is under development, but nearly complete and ready for testing.
