My dotfiles

Installation

  1. Clone the Repository

    git clone https://github.com/doraeric/dotfiles.git ~/dotfiles
    cd ~/dotfiles
    
  2. Install all requirements first, sudo needed

    ./scripts/bootstrap-ubuntu.sh
    
  3. vi home/vim/vimrc to check what plugin to install

  4. Install plugins

    ./scripts/bootstrap-ubuntu-user.sh
    
  5. Link the scripts

    ./install.sh
    
  6. (optional) Compile vim plugin YouCompleteMe

    sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake; cd ~/.vim/bundle/YouCompleteMe; ./install.py --clang-completer

  7. (optional) Load local setting

    git clone https://github.com/doraeric/dotfiles.local.git ~/dotfiles/home.local; cd ~/dotfiles; ./install.sh

Other settings

16 Colors for Terminal Emulator

Colors can be different, it's just a note.

sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils

fstab guide, ntfs-3g, /mnt vs /media

Touchpad Settings

Enable touchpad while using keyboard

# This command shows settings about touchpad
gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad

# This command enable touchpad while typing
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad disable-while-typing false

For gestures, use libinput-gestures

Synaptics touchpad (Ubuntu 16.04)

sudo vi /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf

Section "InputClass"
        ...
        Option "TapButton2" "2"
EndSection

"TapButton2" "2" means: "two-finger tap" "mouse middle click"

Grub

Grub setting file is /etc/default/grub, run sudo update-grub after changing it.

To get supported resolution, press c to enter console mode in grub menu and type

# Ubuntu before 18.04
vbeinfo

# Ubuntu 18.04 and after
videoinfo
# /etc/default/grub
# change resolution
GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 # or other supported value

# remember last choice for dual boot
GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true

Dual boot

Time setting, keep windows and linux correct at the same time

timedatectl set-local-rtc 1 --adjust-system-clock
