Processing Images

File Format

  • Images of dedicated trees and objects should be formatted as PNG files.
  • PNG files offer lossless data compression.

Naming Conventions

  • Every image file should be named in the following format: LC_#.png.
  • "#" is equivalent to corresponding donation_id number in the lc-data.csv file on GitHub.
  • The lc-data.csv file can be found here.
  • For example, a tree with the donation_id 150 should have an image called LC_150.png. Be sure to add the name of the file to the img_src column in the lc-data.csv file on GitHub.

Size

  1. Before uploading the images to the Living Campus project repository on GitHub, ensure that the files are approximately 100 KB in size.
  2. Save a copy of the original image file before compressing in case you need to return to the original.
  • Images can be compressed using a variety of software or online services.
  • For example, tinypng.com can compress up to 20 images at once.

Upload the Images

  1. Make sure that you are in your forked Living Campus repository. When you are in your forked Living Campus repository, you should see the following under the main GitHub menu at the top of the page, it will look similar to this: Personal Forked Repository Please note that the blurred area will have the username that you chose for your GitHub account.
  2. Click on the folder called “images.” You should then see a list of .png images.
  3. Towards the upper right of the page, you should see four white buttons (“Create new file”, “Upload files”, “Find file”, and “History”) next to each other, and they should look like this: ![Create new file / Upload files / Find file / History (Buttons)]https://github.com/digbmc/living-campus/blob/master/Wiki%20Images/CreatenewfileUploadfilesFindfileHistoryButtons.png)
  4. Click on the “Upload files” button. You should now see the following: Upload files Page
  5. Drag your files to this window or upload them by clicking on the hyperlinked words “choose your files”. All the images you select will upload.
  6. In the box that says, “Add files via upload”, leave it empty. You don't need to enter anything here.
  7. Click the green button that says, “Commit changes.”

Push Images to the Original Living Campus Project

  1. You will then be taken into your main, forked living-campus repository and will see the same page you did at the end of step 10 and beginning of step 11. Switch over to the Pull requests tab by clicking on “Pull requests” (next to the Code tab). It will look like this: Code / Pull requests / Projects / Wiki / Insights / Settings
  2. Click on the green button that says, “New pull request.” You will now see something like this: ![New pull request]https://github.com/digbmc/living-campus/blob/master/Wiki%20Images/CodePullrequestsProjectsWikiInsightsSettings.png) Please note that your GitHub username will be where the blur is.
  3. Click on the green button that says, “Create pull request”. It is in the cream-colored box and looks like this: Create pull request
  4. Now you’re done! A staff member will review your pull request and either accept it or ask for revisions.
