1. contributors_aliases.canonical_email maps to the email in the contributors table
2. contributors_aliases.alias_email maps to the “new email”
3. commits.cmt_author_raw_email and commits.cmts_author_email is a holdover from the https://github.com/brianwarner/facade project, upon which our commit counting is based (with permission). We have extended it in a number of ways, fwiw.
