can't get i18n to work, System is not defined

i have just updated my package.json to use angular 4, and then i said let's dumb ng2-translate and use angular default i18n instead. i have been following this guide:

https://angular.io/docs/ts/latest/cookbook/i18n.html

but i am stuck with two errors:

ReferenceError: System is not defined[Learn More]  localhost:8080:25:5

Error: Cannot find module './locale/messages.ar.xlf!text'.

that's where it says System is not defined.

Heya, the i18n instructions shown at https://angular.io/docs/ts/latest/cookbook/i18n.html is meant to be used with the SystemJS setup shown on the docs overall, and not the CLI.

The CLI has a specific i18n commands that should make it easier: https://github.com/angular/angular-cli/wiki/stories-internationalization

thanks, totally didn't notice at first that i can run --aot in development environment. i18n is working for me now (Y)

Can somebody clarify if this means AOT is the only way to provide localization if you are using Angular-CLI? Is there any support for JIT translations with Angular-CLI?
