Alain Mosnier's vim config
I believe I had to do the following to build and install a so-called huge Vim, with every option I could think of, after cloning github.com/vim/vim (commit e638acc, on Xubuntu 22.10):
$ cd vim
$ sudo apt install libncurses5-dev libgtk2.0-dev libatk1.0-dev \
libcairo2-dev libx11-dev libxpm-dev libxt-dev python2-dev \
python3-dev ruby-dev lua5.2 liblua5.2-dev libperl-dev git \
libtcl8.6
$ sudo apt build-dep vim-gtk3
$ ./configure --with-features=huge --enable-multibyte --enable-rubyinterp=yes \
--enable-python3interp=yes --with-python3-config-dir=$(python3-config --configdir) \
--enable-perlinterp=yes --enable-luainterp=yes --enable-gui=gtk3 --enable-cscope \
--enable-tclinterp=yes --prefix=/usr/local
$ make -j
$ make test
The test actually ended up with:
Executed: 5753 Tests
Skipped: 46 Tests
FAILED: 1 Tests
Failures:
From test_startup.vim:
Found errors in Test_geometry():
command line..script /home/alain/custom/repos/vim/src/testdir/runtest.vim[569]..function RunTheTest[52]..Test_geometry line 30: Expected '13' but got '9'
But Vim still seems to be working and reports:
$ ./src/vim --version

And then:
$ sudo make install
To get an installation under /usr/local/bin.
Then the Ubuntu Vim can be removed:
$ sudo apt remove vim vim-airline vim-common vim-gui-common vim-runtime \
vim-scripts
