This sentence doesn't quite make sense to me. I believe the sentence should say that Person A didn't get tested until they started to feel sick.

Perhaps Person B got tested because they went to a party, and that coincidentally was immediately after being infected by Person A. Person A waited until they started to feel terribly sick, and at that point the within-host pathogen diversity had mutated. |
