I've created the transcript and other files needed for STS-51-L, the Challenger Disaster. This seems to be the first Shuttle mission transcript for Spacelog, let me know if anything in the formatting needs to change. A few notes:

  • This is based on the in-flight data recorder, it does not include any of the ground-to-air communications;
  • I've included avatars and the mission patch in /images/, but these might need to be edited and resized to work on the site;
  • I mostly edited the Apollo 8 files to create these, so you'll see some remnants of Apollo stuff in here, such as with the error pages. Since this is the first Shuttle transcript, I didn't have a better reference to work from.
  • It would make sense to make a Shuttle specific glossary, but I haven't done that yet.
  • The NASA transcript has some annotations that I've removed, they were provided so lay people could better understand what crew members were saying but were not actually spoken during the launch.

I should also note that I'm not sure where to put the images from NASA of the mission. I've included links to two in transcripts/MEDIA but I don't know if I should be downloading those and adding them somewhere in images/.

Well... It's finished?

I think so? This was more than two years ago, but it looks like I left it in a completed state. This would still be the first Shuttle transcript, so it should probably be reviewed to make sure it's working correctly.

When is released I will also see if it is working correctly from my side!

Just another thing: I found here https://historical.ha.com/itm/explorers/space-exploration/soviet-mission-soyuz-1-official-copy-of-onboard-journal-transcript-for-the-ill-fated-flight-from-the-collection-of-gene/a/6205-53211.s that someone is auctioning the Soyuz 1 transcript. I know that is hard to find the early Russian missions and I think that this transcript should help the project.
